a person, organization, country etc that sells more of something than they buy:

ˌshort ˈseller FINANCE
someone who makes a profit by selling borrowed bonds, shares etc. A short seller sells the shares etc immediately after borrowing them, then buys them again later at a lower price to return to the lender, making a profit:

• Short sellers target stocks they think are overvalued or even fraudulent.

2. good/​bad/​big etc seller MARKETING a product that sells well or badly:

• The book is among the 10 top sellers of all time.

• Frozen yoghurt has been a big seller over the past two years.
